My favorite scene in the 1983 movie “The Right Stuff” is when astronaut Gordo Cooper sleeps on the launch pad waiting for the Atlas rocket to propel him in his Mercury capsule into outer space. It’s based on Tom Wolfe’s great non-fiction account of the same name about the early U.S. space program. It’s what Hemingway called courage: Grace under pressure.
That came to mind when I read reports of former President Trump falling asleep at the felony “hush money” trial that started this week in New York City. The 34-count phony indictment by politicized D.A. Alvin Bragg could land the former chief executive in prison for the rest of his life.
“Objective” CNN reporter Elliot Williams mocked, “Enemy of the Sleeple!” He doesn’t get it. Say what you will about Trump, it takes maximum courage to face down all these ludicrous indictments, when he could have retired to Mar-a-Lago with Melania and played golf the rest of his life.
A good summary of the Bragg farce comes from one of my favorite analysts, James Howard Kunstler in “Crib Notes for the Trial of the Century”:
the politicized Southern District of New York office of the DOJ and … Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Jr. both tried to construct some kind of case against President Trump on all this monkey business, but gave up because the payment of hush-money was itself not illegal between consenting parties and they could not torture the facts into a theory that would make it a crime. Also, by then, their chief witness, Mr. Cohen, had been disbarred and was officially branded a perjurer and liar.
Fast-forward to the 2020 election. “Joe Biden” manages to charm swing-state voters from his basement hide-out, moves into the puppet-theater known as the White House, and unleashes the dogs of lawfare on former president Trump so as to knock him off the political game-board for once and for all. “JB’s” Attorney General, Merrick Garland, sends Deputy AG Matthew Colangelo to work in DA Alvin Bragg’s office, to construct some kind of case out of the Stormy Daniels / Michael Cohen debris.
So the whole thing is a put-up job by Biden-Garland. It has nothing to do with the people of the great state of New York.
This Garland, as I have written before, is the American version of Stalin’s henchman prosecutor Andrei Vyshinsky during the late-1930s Show Trials, who came up with the maxim, “Show me the man, I’ll show you the crime.” Garland is a pure tyrant and will go down history as by far the worst AG in American history. He’s also behind the over-prosecution of the Jan. 6 protestors, many of whose kangaroo-court convictions look to be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Even the anti-Trump NY Times headlined, “Supreme Court Appears Skeptical of Using Obstruction Law to Charge Jan. 6 Rioters.”
Kunstler also included a photo of Daniels’ 2018 disavowal of any allegations she had a “sexual and/or romantic affair with Donald Trump many, many, many years ago.”
So this unfortunate person, whose real name is Stephanie A. Gregory Clifford, received “hush money” from Trump to not talk about having a non-existent relationship with Trump, for which he’s now being prosecuted.
What a farce.
Kunstler again:
The result is an improbable farrago of 34 counts of falsifying business records relating to the Stormy Daniels hush-money payments, converted from misdemeanors to felonies on the theory that the falsifications were intended to conceal other election law crimes, including “influencing the 2016 election.” Each count for which Trump is convicted could result in a prison sentence of up to four years, to be served consecutively, meaning 136 years in jail.
Mr. Trump thus becomes the proverbial ham sandwich that an ambitious DA can convince a grand jury to indict. Now, Mr. Bragg has to persuade a trial jury to convict, in a courtroom presided over by one Judge Juan Merchan, Democratic Party activist and donor, whose daughter, Loren, has raised $93-million in campaign money for Democratic candidates in this November’s election. The Judge has, so far, refused to recuse himself.
If Trump loses this election and Biden wins, we’ll all be zeks in the Biden-Garland Gulag for the rest of our lives. A Stalinist-Bidenist reign of terror will wash over this country and anyone who criticizes the permanent tyranny, including you and me, will be sent to concentration camps and forced dig cobalt for electric-car batteries with our bare hands while watching Biden speeches 24/7/365.
Thanks John for all the info provided in your article. But don't you think this is all theater? More later
