Canada Will Not Become a State, But a Much Closer Ally

He isn’t even president again yet and Donald Trump has shaken up international affairs more than anything since the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. He dispatched the odious Trudeau with a quip about Canada becoming a state, insisted Greenland will become American property, renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America and called for taking back “our” Panama Canal.
Someone suggested paying Greenlanders $100,000 each, costing America $5 billion to get the resource-rich island. It’d be a bargain at $1 million each and $50 billion. Presumably it would be a bribe before a referendum. The Panama threat probably is just to get them in line and repel Chinese influence.
Canada I don’t think will become a state. Instead, it will become a much closer ally and trade partner. They’ll ditch much of the socialism imposed on them since Trudeau pere, Pierre, took over in 1968. Before that, Canada actually was much more conservative and free-market than that warmer place to the south. Their New Deal had been milder than ours.
The rumors are Trudeau fils, Justin, actually is Fidel Castro’s son. Maybe that explains why Justin is even more socialist than Pierre.
The pull toward American conservatism will increase in the coming years as Trump’s economic revival gooses our economy over the Great White North’s slumping economy. Here’s the Canadian dollar vs. the U.S. dollar since lil’ Justin took over in 2015:
It went up in 2021 when Biden came in and began inflating the Yankee dollar. But Justin was envious and soon inflated the Canadian dollar even more.
In the future, watch for the Canadian dollar to tie itself to the U.S. dollar much as the Hong Kong dollar has been since 1983.
I also expect Canada to move away from their socialized medicine system, allowing more private insurance, what they call a “two-tiered” system. They already have a different two-tiered system. Tier 1: Waiting in long lines for routine checkups or procedures. Tier 2: Save your money for when you need to drive South and pay cash for private care; or if you can afford it, fly to Singapore.
A good sign would be if Canada gave up its ludicrous maple-leaf flag and went back to their previous flag:
On trade, Trump will make some kind of deal with the post-Trudeau PM for a modest tariff in exchange for complete integration with our economy. Canada also will be expected to increase defense spending, especially to defend the arctic against Russia and China. America could task Ottawa with taking the lead in protecting the arctic. Here’s a good YouTube of the current situation.
Russia is way ahead in building arctic military bases and nuclear-powered icebreakers for its “Arctic Silk Road” in partnership with China. Why aren’t we leading in this critical technology? And so much for Russia being an economic backwater. Remember when, at the start of the Ukraine War, Biden imposed massive sanctions and claimed, “The ruble is rubble”? Just another dumb statement from that fool who, thankfully, soon will be gone.
I think what Trump is doing is positioning America for the emerging three-power competition: U.S, China and Russia. India some day may become a fourth, but not yet. He wants our neighbors, friends and allies to be truly on our side, prospering and free, and not led by ludicrous ephebic tyrants like Trudeau.
Because of nuclear weapons, this has to be a peaceful global competition. Which means Trump and Putin soon will be ending the Ukraine War.
Europe is a big question mark. Trump wants to cut them loose, which would best for us – and even better for them. I’ll write on that later.
