An obvious defect of the U.S. national election system is it can’t eject an obviously demented president seeking World War III with Russia. NY Times headline: “Biden Allows Ukraine to Strike Russia With Long-Range U.S. Missiles. With two months left in office, the president for the first time authorized the Ukrainian military to use the system known as ATACMS to help defend its forces in the Kursk region of Russia.”
He never should have been nominated in 2020, when he obviously showed signs of early dementia. Once in office, especially after his 2024 debate disaster, he should have resigned, been removed by his Cabinet under the 25th Amendment, or impeached and removed by Congress. None of that happened. He’s still there, wielding 6,000 nuclear weapons.
Fortunately, the Pentagon, which six weeks ago temporarily convinced him agianst this move, and the Military Industrial Complex have been too incompetent to make this a real threat. There are too few ATACMS in the pipeline because the MIC exists to produce high profits, not large numbers of weapons. The ATACMS also are needed in the Middle East and in an anticipated war with China.
Russia’s air defenses also are the best in the world, and only have improved under fire. And Russia has moved its main air bases and other important bases to the east, to get out of the range of the ATACMS.
The intent by Biden obviously is to snub the voters, whom he detests, and tie Trump to a hawkish policy in the war. Trump promised to end the war “within 24 hours of being elected.” Oops. He forget Biden’s dementia and demonic hatred. But Trump has been mum on all this, biding his time until he takes the reins of power in two months, which can’t come soon enough.
Putin said giving “Ukraine” (really U.S. technicians) liberty to use the ATACMS would be a declaration of war by the U.S. But what really has happened is Biden, once again, has turned the strategic initiative over to Putin. Maybe Biden is the one really in Putin’s pocket? Can somebody check on that?
Putin again takes up the strategic initiative because he’s the one who decides what to do next. As noted above, I don’t think that will be World War III. Russia easily is winning now on the battlefield, gaining 1 km a day. He has two months to gain more ground before striking a deal with Trump to end this monstrous Biden War.
But what the ATACMS deal does is give Russia every incentive to put more kilometers between Moscow and any ATACMS or other long-range missiles a rump Ukrainian government might be given in the future. That probably means going at least to the Dnepr river, maybe to Kiev and then all the way to the Polish border. Short of direct involvement by the U.S./NATO, the Russian Army can’t be stopped. That’s the last thing Trump wants. But it might be Biden’s next demented escalation.
Takeaway: Don’t get rid of your bomb shelter until the afternoon of Jan. 20.
