DeSantis Should Retool Campaign as 100% Anti-Biden Corruption
I like Ron DeSantis. He probably would be a pretty good president. But not this cycle. Reagan took three attempts: 1968, 1976 and 1980. Even Trump took two times, starting with his 2000 attempt for the now defunct Reform Party.
The reason is simple: It’s a tough job running for president. There’s nothing like it. The competition is fierce. For Republicans, not only are your GOP opponents against you, so is the Fake News. That’s even more true now. In fact, it may be impossible now for a Republican to win.
Good ol’ Ron thought he could run a traditional race, much like fellow Sunshine State Gov. Jeb! did in 2016. He now knows otherwise. As Trump has shown, you need an unconventional race – assuming, again, a Republican will be allowed to win.
DeSantis’ biggest mistake was the one Ted Cruz made eight years ago. As you might remember, Cruz was cruisin’ in second place behind Trump. He was Trump Lite. The same takes on immigration, taxes, bureaucracy, etc. Then around January 2016, Ted started moving up in the polls, into second place. Images of sitting behind the big desk in the Oval Office began to infest his head. He began attacking Trump.
Trump responded by branding him Lyin’ Ted, constantly attacking him. And it was over for Ted. If Cruz had just kept cruisin’, Trump would have left him alone. Ted would have been positioned to move up should Trump have stumbled. He would have been a good candidate for VP. And he would have been positioned to take the top spot in 2024 or 2028.
DeSantis should have learned that lesson, but didn’t.
He has made other mistakes. He had a good feud going with Gov. Gavin Newsom. I can’t find the clip, but he recently said he “wouldn’t change” California. Please, Ron, come out here and change California! If you’re president, declare this state in secession and, like Abe, send in the Union Army to take it over and end the insanity.
DeSantis also has waffled on the Ukraine War, even as the GOP “base” increasingly is turning against Biden’s nuclear suicidal policy. It’s not just Trump, but Bobby Kennedy Jr. over with the Dems, who is scoring with voters on ending this insane war that never should have happened.
Ron also has a thin skin. If you run for political office, especially the presidency, you have to let the attacks slide. He has to know that because he’s been running campaigns for decades.
DeSantis also is not defending Trump adequately against the Biden dictatorship’s Stalinist show trials. He wouldn’t say if the indictments disqualify Trump from running because the voters “make those decisions.” He should sound like Mark Levin, who blasted:
This is a disgusting, disgusting, mark on American history for the future to come, by these bandits in the White House, by the Democrat Party, that don’t play fair anymore. They don’t want to just win elections. They want to take control of this country. They want One Party rule. And they have used the Department of Justice and the FBI to get what they want. Merrick Garland is a mob lawyer. That’s what he is. Jack Reed is a rogue, Soviet-style prosecutor. The Presidential Records Act is not a criminal statute. It was never intended to be. The Espionage Act of 1917 was passed under Woodrow Wilson, another corrupt president. Woodrow Wilson used it to go after his adversaries, and he imprisoned 2,000 people.
Ron also should be attacking Biden’s obvious corruption even harder than Trump. Biden and his family are so vastly corrupt this is a target-rich environment. The GOP primary competition should be about which candidate hardest can attack Biden, calling for impeachment and removal from office.
DeSantis should be leading the attack. That’s how he should retool his campaign.
The very survival of our country and its sacred freedoms are at stake as never before. We all need to join together to restore democracy and freedom. We won’t get another chance.
