Americans have been holding mid-term primary elections. Including here Tuesday in California. But the real election Tuesday was Raytheon electing to move from Massachusetts to the D.C. area, specifically Arlington, home of the Pentagon. A month ago, Boeing split Chicago for Arlington.
As Responsible Statecraft wrote, “With Raytheon and Boeing coming to town, every one of the five leading defense contractors will now be based in the D.C. area, giving them closer access to the network of officials, politicians and lobbyists that help these defense giants bring in massive profits. In other words, the military industrial complex has officially set up shop in the Pentagon’s shadow.”
If you know anything about D.C. — I hated my five years there in the mid-1980s — you know it’s just a big, expensive, humid company town: The Swamp. The politicians, lobbists, and lawyers’ main concern is not serving the American people, but to continue hornswoggling the public to keep the tax dollars flowing — and, on occasion, the blood flowing into the dirt from the veins of your boys and, nowadays, girls.
That’s why the Military-Industrial Complex gets a $1 trillion budget every year — when you add up all the hidden costs — despite continuing to lose wars. They just got another $40 billion for losing the Ukraine war.
Raytheon’s stock price has risen since the rumors of war started, going from $81 last Dec. 20 to $99 June 8. A 22% increase. Nice profit from blood money.
Especially profitable for Raytheon has been the Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. Although reports I follow conflict on whether they have been effective, or the Russians have used adequate counter-measures. Doesn’t matter. What matters is the sales, the profits, the lucre.
It also doesn’t matter there has been no Declaration of War by Congress, as mandated by the Constitution. Nobody in D.C. cares about the Constitution.
It is revelatory such supposed socialists and anti-war types as Sen. Bernie Sanders and The Squad, led by AOC, are backing blowing the $40 billion on the U.S.-Russia war in Ukraine. Remember that the next time they start blabbing about increasing medical spending for their Single Payer socialized medicine scheme. Sorry Bernie and Sandy, you sent all the money for that to Raytheon, which launched it at Russians it in Ukraine. Now Raytheon needs to replenish the U.S. stockpiles of these and other weapons to earn more profits.
It’s not just campaign contributions the Military-Industrial Complex gives to “our” members of Congress. Reported Insider, “20 members of Congress personally invest in top weapons contractors that'll profit from the just-passed $40 billion Ukraine aid package.”
To quote America’s finest U.S. Navy Captain, Wallace B. Binghamton: I could just scream!
