As President Xi Jianping visits President Putin in Moscow next week, China is emerging as the big winner in the Ukraine war.
That’s something the neocons running U.S. foreign policy won’t tell you. We can see this in their attacks on Gov. Ron DeSantis for telling Tucker Carlson, in a written response, Ukraine is not one of America’s “vital interests.” In that, he came close to former President Trump in opposing the war.
The Economist, a neocon outfit, blasted him:
He was not only wrong, but his words have done lasting damage to Ukraine, America’s allies and America itself….
And Mr DeSantis is undermining his own priority of standing up to China. If America abandons Ukraine, then Asian countries that depend on America for their security will start to question its reliability. Should they lose faith, some will react by falling in behind China. Others, such as Japan and South Korea, could even procure nuclear weapons. Neither is in American interests.
The link is to a Nov. 22 article in the mag: “A Ukrainian victory could bring benefits for America. It would also bring complications and dangers.” Yeah — dangers like possibly getting nuked.
Over here in the colonies, The Bulwark, where the neocons landed after they split the GOP when Trump rose in 2016 and went back to their Democrat Party cubbyhole, ran this tweet:
DeSantis has shown himself willing to disregard both the real geopolitical stakes and the sheer human cost of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to strike a pose for MAGA. If he keeps it up, the split with him should be more than temporary.
Actually, there is going to be no “Ukrainian victory,” as I have said many times here this past year. Even the establishment U.S media is starting to concede that. The WaPo March 13:
Ukraine short of skilled troops and munitions as losses, pessimism grow.
The NY Times March 16:
Ukraine Burns Through Ammunition in Bakhmut, Putting Future Fights at Risk. The military is using thousands of artillery shells a day as it tries to hold the eastern city, which could jeopardize a planned springtime campaign.
When America’s two top neocon propaganda organs — the WaPo is an extension of the CIA, the NYT of the State Department — come out with stories like that in quick succession, you know something is afoot. It appears to be a reassessment of Ukraine policy, taking into account Russia’s pending offensive when the mud dries, maybe in late June or early July.
China Wins
So, let’s look how China is winning as Xi heads to Moscow.
Russia is gaining vast knowledge of U.S. weapons and war-fighting techniques. This is invaluable. Imagine if, for example, Hitler had known of the later famous T-34 tank Stalin had before Operation Barbarossa on June 22, 1941. The tank prevented Hitler from taking Moscow, and winning the war early. For today, the downing of the drone, which Russia apparently recovered, is just one example. The Pentagon says the drone won’t help Russia. Likely another lie. But Russia also has captured — or simply bought on corrupt Ukraine’s black market — HIMARS, Javelins and other whiz-band U.S. weapons. These will be disassembled to see how they tick, the intelligence shared with China.
Russia has gained knowledge of America’s vast intelligence apparatus, by far the best in the world. It has developed countermeasures that will be shared with China.
Russia is learning which of its weapons operate against U.S. weapons, and which don’t. Again, Russia is sharing its intel with China. But guess what? The U.S. has no idea how Chinese weapons work against U.S. weapons because the latter are not being used. Indeed, the Biden regime has warned China not to give anything to Russia.
Back 50 years ago, Nixon and Kissinger widened the Sino-Soviet split. Biden and the neocons have reversed that, jamming Russia and China together. Putin and Xi now, as the kids say, are BFF — best friends forever. This is the worst diplomatic disaster in American history.
China and Russia have been establishing new dipolmatic ties around the world, forming a new counter-U.S. bloc. Giant China and India, despite their continuing border dispute in the Himalayas, have joined Russia in forming new alliances. China just facilitated detente between Saudi Arabia, a putative U.S. ally, and Iran. Even the WaPo conceded March 16, “How China is heralding the beginnings of a multipolar Middle East.” China, Russia and South Africa recently held joint naval exercises. Fox News reported: “South Africa drills with Russia, China could signify failed Washington efforts to solidify African allies. The State Department noted with 'concern' South Africa's decision to hold joint drills with Russia and China.”
These new diplomatic ties include: BRICS+ (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Plus other countries, now including Mexico!); the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which now is “covering approximately 60% of the area of Eurasia, 40% of the world population, and more than 30% of global GDP”; and the Belt and Road Initiative.
Although the dollar will remain the major global currency, Russia, China and other countries are establishing alternative payment systems. The good side to this is the competition will force the dollar to remain stable, with no or low inflation. Effectively, the world will be returning to a type of gold or commodities standard.
As a result of this war, Russia is increasing its defense spending 50% and China an unknown amount. I don’t think America will get into a war with China. But, along with the intel mentioned above, China will be a much stronger adversary much quicker than before. I haven’t seen any reports on this, but I think Xi may have ended his stupid extreme COVID lockdowns earlier than he wanted because he had to start revving up the Chinese economy again to boost his military.
China also is ramping up production of nuclear bombs and missiles to destroy the U.S. Before the Ukraine war, they had about 350 bombs, although some sources said more. Compared to about 5,400 for the U.S. and 6,000 for Russia. The Pentagon now estimates China is increasing its total to 1,500 by 2035.
Conclusion
This is what happens when you let your country be run by an addled fool trying to play FDR in fighting a war with another superpower. It’s clear Biden’s ongoing destruction of Ukraine had nothing to do with keeping it “free,” especially as it’s not free, but in trying to destabilize Russia. Instead, Russia will be stronger than ever, as will China. And both will be united against the United States.
