I remember when President Reagan was shot on March 30, 1981. I was serving in the U.S. Army in West Germany as a Russian linguist in a mobile intelligence unit. We were concerned the Soviets might have tried to bump him off as a prelude to an invasion against NATO. Reagan was in power only 70 days advancing his promises to fight what he soon would call the Evil Empire.
There was confusion at first. Secretary of State Alexander Haig seemed to say he was in charge of the government. Then Vice President Bush quickly asserted his constitutional authority to temporarily be in charge while Reagan was sedated and under the knife.
Soon, we got some Reagan quips. To Nancy: “Honey, I forgot to duck.” To the surgeons: “Please tell me you’re Republicans.” The next day, we had pictures of him signing legislation from his hospital bed. On April 11, just 12 days after being shot, he returned to duties in the White House. Such steadiness under fire assured the country, and the world.
We also just saw former President Trump survive an assassination attempt. Instead of cowering on the grown, he leapt up, pumped his fist in the air, and shouted, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
Contrast that to President Joe Biden, who has not been seen in many days and supposedly is recovering from COVID at his Delaware beach compound. I guess all those vaccines and boosters he took, and urged on us, whispering, weirdly, “Get the vaxxxxxx!,” didn’t work.
But why can’t he appear, in person, and show us he’s OK? I got the pox three times, the first time pretty bad. I spent the convalescence sleeping and watching Three Stooges videos. The good side was I lost 10 pounds. But I could have gotten cleaned up, put on a business suit, and appeared at my window doing a Curly imitation.
So, where’s Joe? His campaign resignation letter was not on campaign nor White House stationery. His signature looked different. His later tweet endorsing Kamala could have been posted by anybody. He later made a phone call to her, reiterating his endorsement. But nowadays AI can fake any voice. They even have AI’s of “translating” Hitler, in his own voice, into English. In D.C. for a speech to Congress tomorrow, Israeli PM Netanyahu will meet with Kamala, not Joe.
This is crucial because Biden still is the man in charge of the nuclear launch codes. As I described it in my recent article, “72 Minutes to Nuclear Armageddon,” in a crisis a president has just six minutes to decide whether to launch America’s nukes, leading to global thermonuclear Armageddon and the destruction of 5 billion of 8 billion people on the planet.
Who really is in charge? And why is this happening to us?
At a minimum, Harris has to level with us on what’s happening to Biden. How about taking a few video selfies with Biden so we can make sure he’s at least alive?
It’s really a bad cliché used for years about Biden. But I really can’t resist the comparison to “Weekend at Bernie’s.”
Reagan was shot by the wackadoodle black sheep of a family that was close friends with the Bush family.
