Too bad the government shutdown won’t be permanent

When I was in Washington in the 1980s under Reagan, we young conservatives always cheered when the government “shut down” over one of these budget “crises.” We knew the shutdown was bogus, affecting only about 13% of the government; and those workers would get back pay for sitting home and vegetating there instead in of their bureaus. But it still was fun to say “government shutdown.” And the notoriously bad traffic cleared on the Beltway for a couple of days.

We’re going through another fake panic now over a “shut down.” Here’s the egregious Rep. Eric Swalwell, a major reason California ought to be kicked out of the Union:

“We are headed toward a government shutdown, and Republicans know it will hurt people: small business loans delayed, VA offices closed, and federal workers forced to work without pay during the holidays.

“But guess who still gets paid? They do. That’s not leadership.”

It’s not clear who “who” is. Congress? Federal workers? Republicans? It’s like the old Abbott and Costello “Who’s on First?” routine.

But speaking as a veteran, which he is not, I’m willing to let the VA shut down, even though I use it, if a shutdown will direct people’s attention to the absurdity of it all. Here’s the current national debt as I write, which will rise before you read this, from the U.S. Debt Clock:

Here’s how much Swalwell wants to add with this budget:

$2,000,000,000,000.00

And here’s how much of the budget he wants will pay out in interest, money that could go to funding programs, pay down the debt or – dare I say it? – be given back to us hard-working slaves who pay for everything:

$1,200,000,000,00.00

If those numbers aren’t reduced, the government will go belly up, and all those “people” Swalwell claims he’s concerned about will be hurt first.

This Swalwell is a typical Swamp parasite. According to his bio, he went straight from college to an internship in Congress, law school, then politics. He’s never worked an honest day in his life. Never produced anything except government assaults on our life, liberty and property.

He’s been a major ally of now-Sen. Adam Schiff in attacks on Donald Trump, in particular for the Russia! Russia! Russia! Hoax in the first term. And Swalwell is best known for his connection to a suspected Communist Chinese spy named Fang Fang. Remember that?

There’s some good news, though. The latest demographic projections show California could lose as many as five seats after the 2030 U.S. Census. Under recent governors, including “Republican” Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democrats Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom, the state has been so mismanaged millions have decamped our paradisiacal weather for the humid, hurricane-haunted states of Florida and Texas. So if he’s still around – and Swalwell is the type who will be in the House as a nonagenarian – his seat could be redistricted off the map before the 2032 election, forcing him to compete with other Silicon Valley Stalinists for a seat in the lower chamber.

In the meantime, enjoy the government shutdown. It’s like binge watching an idiotic TV series over the holidays. Sometimes you just need a mindless indulgence before taking the Blue Pill and plunging back into the Real World.
